- Counseling Services
Professional Interests
Eating disorders/body image concerns, perfectionism, anxiety, life transitions, loss and grief, relational dynamics, cultural identity and self-identity. My therapy style focuses on support, mindful self-compassion, and openness through an integrative approach that is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), and Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic therapies.
About Me
I am a doctoral candidate receiving my degree from Alliant International University in San Diego, California. Prior to coming to UC Davis for my APA accredited internship year, I provided therapeutic services within university counseling, community mental health, and hospital (IOP/PHP) settings. I was born and raised in San Diego yet have explored other parts of the world through personal travel, a study abroad experience in London, England and undergraduate studies in Northern California. My dissertation focuses on qualitatively exploring the experiences of diverse populations within the United States with EDs in order to help challenge the assumption of how a ‘typical’ eating disorder patient may present. My hope is to inform future research and fill the widely pervasive gaps currently perpetuating the stigma attached to a lack of representation of diverse populations.
In my free time, I enjoy reading fantasy novels, watching tv shows on the couch with my pups, any kind of movement outside with nature and finding new places to explore/eat in the city (especially to find some good tacos).
How I Work With Students
I aim to provide a space of comfortability, authenticity and hope through my integrative, culturally-enriched, and embracing therapeutic style. My plan for each student I see is individualized, flexible, and multi-theoretical of which focuses on meeting your particular needs to empower healing in ways that are consistent with your sociocultural context. I believe that the best therapy is ultimately about self-discovery which is best nurtured in a safe and supportive space, free of judgment and guided by you. In our work together, we can collaboratively help you reach a space where you feel more self-aware, confident and supported in your growth through undergraduate/graduate studies at UC Davis and life beyond.
Additionally, in all my sessions, my hope is to embody the idea that “the shadow proves the sunshine”. A favorite band of mine wrote this to illustrate how shadows are believed to be spots of darkness and are also proof of the existence of the sun (since we know they cannot exist without light). To me, these lyrics speak to the natural human experience of facing struggles and challenges, thus acknowledging that despite the wounds and scars we pick up along the way, there is still a place for healing and growth. I greatly look forward to an opportunity to work with you on your journey towards healing
